Revenue from mobile sports betting before the NFL season

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10)—Mobile sports betting started at the very end of last college football and NFL season. The New York State Gaming Commission says there will be more college games this Saturday through 4 p.m. than all football games combined since mobile sports betting began in New York State. .

Back As of January 2022, mobile sports betting was expected to generate $249 million in tax revenue.

However, it exceeded expectations. As of the end of August, actual gross gaming revenue was $766.4 million, bringing tax collection to over $390 million, in addition to the $200 million in fees of license.

“Tonight we expect volumes that have exceeded anything we’ve seen in New York State outside of the Super Bowl before,” said Zach Schlouch, director of sports betting operations for BetRivers. “And we think players will have a lot to bet and check all the way from whistle to whistle tonight.”

Johnny Avello, director of sports operations for Draft Kings, said he also expects a lot of people to place bets.

“It’s kick off and it’s just a great game between two teams,” Avello said. “And then it will continue until Sunday where we will have more mornings and afternoons and a Sunday evening game, which will also be isolated, and then a Monday evening game of course. So tonight is a big game. and it’s usually a great game. The NFL does a great job of pitting two of the best teams against each other.”

The state said there were a total of 3 million users registered to participate in New York mobile sports betting.

“As DraftKings continues to be in New York, others across the state will join and participate, especially now for a full football season,” Avello said. “And people are now familiar with the kings of the draft. They see all the different types of bets and content we offer, so I’m looking for even more attendance than last year.

A majority of the state tax imposed on this goes to fund education, in addition to funding sports programs for disadvantaged youth and gambling education and treatment.
